[ they SHOULD be able to turn it off, shouldn't they? Shouldn't they avoid indulging feelings that might make them compromised, or weak? There's not really a clear explanation in their mind for why having a crush is bad, exactly, but it's a development they were not expecting, and the self-denial, suffering-makes-you-stronger bullshit they were raised with runs deep. ]
